Small donors slow to return to Obama's fold
Sat Sep 24, 2011
I keep contributing, maybe not as enthusiastically. But the alternatives are not only bad, they've gotten much worse.
No more mail? What would Ben Franklin think?
Sun Sep 11, 2011
So increase the post office's revenue by raising the postal rates; they are lower than in most other countries. Don't cut services. Charge what they are worth.
British PM: Multiculturalism has failed
Sun Feb 6, 2011
It depends on what you mean by multiculturalism. Not suppressing diversity is one thing. Insisting on it is another. The latter is the policy that has failed. Full rights for all does not have to mean encouraging anti-democratic and socially reactionary groups.
What does the apparent compromise on the Bush-era tax cuts tell us about Obama and the Democrats?
Mon Dec 6, 2010
I'd say the score was Dems 2, GOP 1. The Dems got the middle-class extension and the unemployment benefits extension. In return, the GOP got the upper-class extension. By the way, I didn't vote because none of the poll's choices represented my view.
What does the apparent compromise on the Bush-era tax cuts tell us about Obama and the Democrats?
Mon Dec 6, 2010
Getting the middle-class cut and the extension of unemployment benefits and giving up the extension of the tax cut to the rich seems a pretty good bargain for the Dems--2 to 1 in favor of the Dems, by my count. I didn't vote because none of the options captured my opinion.

What security measure would you prefer?
Thu Oct 28, 2010

Who will win the U.S. Open men's title?
Thu Sep 10, 2009
Federer's concentration is amazing. Only Nadal's matches it. When an opponent manages to make a match of it, it's the opponent who always blinks first. When Fed and Rafa go head-to-head, it's anybody's guess--except on clay, where Fed is the second best in the world.
If building an NBA team from scratch, whom do you want?
Sun May 31, 2009
I'd take Bryant if he were a couple years younger. Since the question is about building a team, I'd have to go with the younger guys--James or Howard. And because I think it's easier to build a team around a center, I'd go with Howard, even though James is an all round better player.
If Roger Federer wins the French Open, would it mean as much without beating Rafael Nadal?
Sun May 31, 2009
Winning a tournament is about playing well consistently and getting through the early rounds, not just about beating your rival in the final round. Otherwise we should just have the number 1 ranked player go head-to-head with the number 2 player.
